EAT LOCAL

Date back from my last trip in Chiangmai during July, this NEW chill out spot in Niman Road. It is situated in front of Eastin Tan Hotel. You might question if this is a PARK? Actually it is not really just a PARK but more than that. It includes lots of cafes and handcrafts creative stores.

The restaurants are owned by Captain Tan, who is the boss of Oishi dining group in Thailand who owned lots of restaurants. Thus you might find his statue in the entrance. The whole environment is so relax, it is not a super big place but takes only 30 minutes walk through the whole area. With lots of small lovely wall paintings along the little shops, is easy to find some nice spot for lovely shot! So let me show you how special this Park is!

It looks totally different in the day & night of this park, you will see what I mean later. Anyways, there are approximately 10 stores and a cafe located at the entrance and for sure you won’t miss out! The weather wasn’t good and is showering at that moment. We went there at 09:00 morning so seems like lots of stores have not yet open. So let me show you a few stores.

Robin & Ruth – This store sell lots of souvenirs. Includes Bags, T-shirst, post cards etc. I am not sure about the price range but I haven’t buy anything from this store as I don’t like to buy some Thailand printed products.

This is the 2nd store which opened so early as well, there are magnets of elephant shape. Guess these were handcrafts which is quite attractive with lots of color choices.

There’s also a Tom N Tom’s Coffee shop nearby! It opens 24 hours. So if you happened to get back late to hotel after big shopping, guess this is also a nice place to take some rest and enjoy a coffee before back to hotel.

While passing through the stores, I found some interesting wall painting. See if you could also find it? It definitely a great spot to take some cool photos! I love the little girl looking through the window wall painting. It totally stands out from the white wall and I can imagine how creative the Thai people are. Also you can find a few graffiti on other walls.

They do have some creative statue, it looks cute! Not sure what actually this is haha.

LOCAL CAFE

As mentioned above, we actually came here for breakfast. So that’s the local cafe where situated in front of the Huge Cat statue. Don’t forget to take some nice shot with her! ^-^

The Local Cafe have 2 floors in a Glass house. The light went through from the exterior and you can also able to see the big tree in front. The Cafe is quite spacious. Before I get in, there is a quote written in the glass of the door. “Think LOCAL, Eat LOCAL”, it meant so much to me as when I travel to other countries, I do think we really need to experience local food and think how local think in order to get more understanding of the culture.

There is a long counter at center in the cafe. You need to order food from there and someone will bring to your table with the given order no. Menu is provided at the counter as well. So there’s no need reservation, you have to find the seat yourself. The day we went wasn’t lots of people as it might be too early. However I’m not sure how crowded in the weekend. So guess better to go earlier! There are quite lots of tables for either two or a group. I wasn’t able to show you the 2nd floor as it wasn’t open in the morning. however guess there also lots of tables.

The Food

Local Cafe serves fusion food. That means it is a combination of various cookery forms. We ordered Palm and strawberry Ice Cube. They served not only the juice but the strawberry and palm pulp was actually in the drink. Decorated with a little mint leaf, it is so refreshing! Not only tasty but the presentation is so good! As we came here at 09:00 morning, I ordered French toasted Bacon Breakfast and my hubby ordered the Pork Bun. It’s a simple breakfast but it taste so yum!! The pork Bun taste so juicy too!

After the breakfast, we also ordered a blueberry cheese cake and Latte. The cake wasn’t disappoint me and so as the coffee. The price of the breakfast for two is only 450 Baht!! include the drinks. How great to have this with such a reasonable price!

Night View

As mentioned above, it looks totally different from the day view. Personally I like the night view more as it looks so beautiful with all the lights on along the trees!!

Also there is a Mall just across the street – MAYA Mall. There are lots of apparel stores and restaurants. So is good to visit this mall as well if you already here.

TIPS!!! There is an art store which sell lots of various paint brushes in Maya Mall and it is really cheap! If you are a painting or love painting you definitely need to go and get some back home! however I forgot the name but you can find it in the directory as there’s only one store. I remember it is on 3/f.
